Milan are set to select who coach will succeed Stefano Pioli in the next weeks, with Sergio Conceicao and Paulo Fonseca vying for the job, while Maurizio Sarri remains in the background.
The Rossoneri failed to impress in their Serie A clash with Genoa on Sunday, drawing 3-3 at San Siro, a result that further condemned Pioli as the season came to an end.
Last month, Milan appeared increasingly inclined to make a move for Julen Lopetegui, who has been out of job since his Wolves exit last summer.
However, considerable fan opposition, including a ‘Nopetegui’ petition, eventually pushed the club to look elsewhere.
Milan alternatives
Page 18 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Conceicao and Fonseca are presently the main candidates to succeed Pioli at Milan, with a decision likely by the end of the month.
The former is widely regarded for his work with Porto, whereas the later is admired for his understanding of Serie A and successful tenure with Roma. Both parties have engaged in exploratory conversations, but no final decision has been reached.
In the backdrop is Sarri, who departed Lazio in March. The Italian coach is not a major prospect and hasn’t been very persuasive for the Rossoneri at this stage.
