Isaac Hayden could return to Loftus Road on a permanent basis this summer, following his loan stay at QPR.
Isaac Hayden, a Newcastle United midfielder, has had a successful loan stay with Queens Park Rangers in the second half of the season, and the West London club is expected to re-sign him this summer on a free transfer.
The former Arsenal youth graduate spent the past season on loan both overseas and at home, and it was on his own turf that he rediscovered his best form, helping the Loftus Road club avoid relegation.
With parent club Newcastle definitely headed in a new direction and Hayden appearing out of any future plans, the Essex-born midfielder will be looking for a new club, and the Rs might be the perfect fit.
QPR are optimistic of re-signing Isaac Hayden.
According to journalist Darren Witcoop, QPR is optimistic of re-signing Hayden on a free transfer this summer.
The midfielder is poised to negotiate a settlement agreement with Newcastle, allowing him to become a free agent despite having a contract until the summer of 2026.
Hayden’s Loftus Road achievements have not gone ignored, and there is thought to be additional Championship interest, although he would love to return to Marti Cifuentes’ side.
The holding midfielder has been at Newcastle since 2016, when the Magpies were promoted to the EFL Championship, and has played six seasons with the main team at St James’ Park before going on loan to other clubs.
Hayden will be a statement signing for QPR in 2024/2025.
Capturing Hayden will be a major coup for QPR this summer, given he will have plenty of suitors elsewhere.
Hayden has impressed in 17 outings for the Rs this season, forming strong relationships with fellow midfielders Sam Field, Jack Colback, and Elijah Dixon-Bonner.
Following a horrible season for the Rs, keeping the midfield intact will be critical. Adding Hayden to the mix as a player who has already been around the squad and will bring with him a wealth of knowledge from abroad should help QPR finish much higher next season.
Isaac Hayden might need to accept a wage reduction at QPR.
To make the permanent transfer to Loftus Road, Hayden will most likely have to take a pay cut.
Hayden’s current weekly salary is estimated by Capology.com to be £21,000. While this is not greater than QPR’s best earning, Steve Cook, who reportedly earns £30,000 per week, it may be more than they can afford to pay the 29-year-old.
With a significant number of players out of contract, including Chris Willock, the QPR board and Cifuentes may have a few busy days ahead of them, as a potential game of ‘Will they, won’t they’ may begin over the signing of Hayden and the renewal of key players’ contracts, ahead of what many fans will hope is a strong summer transfer window.
