QPR, Al Ettifaq get transfer boost as Chippa United boss shares new Stanley Nwabali update
Chippa United co-head coach Thabo September has indicated that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will most likely depart the club at the end of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nwabali has had a substantial increase in recent months. Six months ago, he was simply another Nigerian goalie in the South African Premier League. However, things changed at the turn of the year, when coach Jose Peseiro invited him to the Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations team in response to Francis Uzoho’s inconsistent performance.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in the campaign and saved two penalties in a shootout against South Africa in the semifinals to help the Super Eagles win silver.
Nwabali also kept a cool head in goal in the most of the games, displaying his
status as a great shot-stopper. Following his performances for Nigeria in the AFCON, clubs including QPR, Al Ettifaq, and Kaizer Chiefs have expressed interest in him. However, no concrete conversations have taken place.
Meanwhile, Nwabali’s contract is slated to expire at the end of the season, but the coach, September, is uncertain about his future.
Nwabali’s next move is unknown, but a move to AL Ettifaq cannot be ruled out because he is nearing the conclusion of his career and would receive a large wage.
