DerbyshireLive brings you the latest Derby County news, including a player associated with the Rams. Derby County have been linked with a move for Barnsley midfielder Herbie Kane on a free transfer.
According to Alan Nixon, the Rams are interested in signing the former Liverpool prospect, who is out of contract this summer.
Kane is thought to desire to play in the Championship following Barnsley’s failure to gain promotion, with the Tykes losing in the playoffs in the previous two seasons. Despite their playoff exit, the 25-year-old has been a key player for Barnsley this season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists.
He was named player of the month in January, but he is unlikely to commit to a new contract with Barnsley in favour of a fresh challenge. Derby will restructure their team this summer as they prepare for their return to the second tier following their historic promotion from League One, and midfield is a vital area, especially with Max Bird departing for Bristol City.
Kane spoke about his promotion ambitions earlier this year, saying: “I’ve been close to promotion three times now; it’s frustrating and disappointing.
“I am trying to get as many goals and assists which is always going to help me and it reverts back to the team as well.”
“It’s something that I want to, and I’m prepared to do it. We’re hoping to get promoted this season.”
