Journalist Dean Jones believes Crystal Palace will not cash in on Adam Wharton this summer after beating Tottenham Hotspur to the midfielder’s signature in January.
Wharton has been a revelation since moving from Blackburn Rovers to Selhurst Park in January, with the 20-year-old demonstrating maturity beyond his years in the heart of the Saints’ midfield.
Only months after joining the Eagles, there is already conjecture that the kid will be transferred to a larger Premier League club.
TBR Football reported a few days ago that Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle are all monitoring Wharton’s progress, while Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus have all checked in on the Englishman. The report said that after paying £22 million for Wharton in January, Crystal Palace manager Steve Parish would ‘find it extremely hard’ to reject a trade that could see them more than double their money for a player in just six months. Tottenham hoped to capture Wharton from Blackburn this summer.
Jones has now suggested that Oliver Glasner’s men are unlikely to allow the former Blackburn player depart after successfully betting on him in January. When asked about the midfielder’s future, Jones told the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast: “I can’t see Wharton leaving yet, especially after Palace invested in him.
“They deposited the money there in January. Tottenham were intending to execute the deal this summer, but they were beaten to it since he was signed right away.”

It makes little sense for Palace to cash in on Wharton now because his market value is only expected to rise in the next year or two. I also don’t see the 20-year-old asking a transfer, given that he plays consistently for the South London club.
