ROTHERHAM UNITED goalkeeper Viktor Johansson is reportedly close to completing a seven-figure transfer to Stoke City, and will have a physical on Friday.
The Swedish international has a £1 million relegation clause in his contract that runs until the summer of 2025, and Stoke are thought to have activated it.
The 25-year-old was extensively linked with a move to Sheffield United during the winter transfer window and was believed to have a number of Championship admirers, with the Potters – who were constantly expected to sign him – winning the race for his services.
Millers manager Steve Evans stated last month that the club’s star asset, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship, was attracting a ‘massive amount of interest’ from other clubs. Evans said: “Listen, I believe it’s well known around football, and I know Viktor’s representatives haven’t been shy about putting it in the media, that there are conditions in his contract that allow him to move on.
“He has a lot of interest in him, and I’m not surprised.
“Everything he does is professional, including his hands and saves.
“I have watched Viktor against my teams and when I have been sat in the stands and Viktor will have considerable interest around him…”
