Ryan Fitzgerald, a three-star quarterback from Wilmette Loyola Academy in Illinois, committed to Iowa as a preferred walk-on on Friday.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Fitzgerald is the son of former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald, and the Hawkeyes were able to land him as a walk-on over Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Colgate, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, and North Dakota
State, Northern Illinois, and other institutions had all offered him a full scholarship.
Fitzgerald pushed his club to a 14-0 record and a second consecutive championship. All-Conference honors and Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He had 2,690 yards and 34 touchdowns as a junior.
