JUST IN : Barnsley 2 key players have issued emotional statements as Barnsley exits are confirmed.

Devante Cole and Jordan Williams have released heartfelt messages following confirmation that they will leave Barnsley this summer.
Both appeared frequently throughout the 2023/24 season, as the Reds missed out on promotion to the Championship for the second consecutive year.

A new era appears to be beginning at Oakwell, with the appointment of a new head coach and the departure of a number of senior individuals. Cole and Williams are among those leaving, along with Robbie Cundy, Herbie Kane, and Nicky Cadden.

Cole has taken to social media to wave farewell to Barnsley fans, writing the following statement: “My time at Barnsley has come to an end; I’ve had some of the best highs and lows here in the previous few years. The squad we’ve had has been incredible to play with, and off the pitch, they’re some of the best guys you’ll meet. A special thanks to the crew for continuously pushing me.

“We came so close twice but couldn’t quite bring it over the line to finish on the highs we all desired. I’ve learned that you can’t please everyone, but that’s life; yet, hearing the crowd chant my name is something I’ll always enjoy and remember; there’s nothing better than scoring knowing how hard you worked on the field. It will always be a significant spot for me because it is where I achieved my first professional objective. “Thank you for everything, DC44.”

Williams has also expressed gratitude to the club, calling his six years at Oakwell as a “rollercoaster”.

He remarked, “I have had six amazing years at Barnsley, from the moment I signed until today, and I have made so many memories that will last a lifetime.” It’s a shame we couldn’t end on a positive note. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride with no dull moments.

“I’ve made lifelong friends and met some incredible people who have helped me develop as a footballer as a person. Being club captain was a big honour. “Thank you for everything.”
