Portsmouth CEO Andy Cullen has disclosed that the club’s plans for summer recruitment have been continuing, with certain targets identified before the season ended.
Pompey will face a different task next season, as they will be competing in the Championship.
The recruitment will have to be coordinated according to the needs of the division, and Cullen is clear that it has been an ongoing process. He claims that the plans are moving forward and tells BBC Radio Solent that they are doing “very well.”
Cullen claims that little activity is taking place while the League One and Championship seasons are still in progress.
However, the CEO claims that a number of targets were identified before Portsmouth’s League One title-winning season came to an end.
“The League One season has yet to be finished. We have the playoff final on Sunday. The Championship playoff final takes place next weekend as well. But we’ve had a lot of targets and conversations in place for several months. The recruitment never stops.
“It just doesn’t start immediately when the transfer opens or closes. This is a continuing process.
“So, lots of ongoing discussions, lots of talks we have identified the number of targets prior to the end of the season.”
Altrincham’s Chris Conn-Clarke and Crystal Palace’s Jadan Raymond have both been linked with moves to Fratton Park.
Loan agreements can be discussed, with the club’s sports director Rich Hughes believing that Pompey has developed as an appealing loan destination for Premier League clubs like Liverpool.
