BREAKING NEWS : Oxford United co-owner Anindya Bakrie has revealed Premier League dream

Anindya Bakrie, co-owner of Oxford United, believes the club can ‘dream big and reach to the Premier League’.

The U’s defeated Bolton Wanderers 2-0 in the Sky Bet League One play-off final on Saturday, securing a return to English football’s second division for the first time in 25 years.

Bakrie was unable to attend the game at Wembley owing to a family situation, but he watched it from Indonesia.

He told the PA news agency: “It’s something you dream about every day; you can do it and win at Wembley.

“It is an amazing time to be a member of this club, which has achieved promotion to the Championship for the first time in 25 years.

“When they showed the award on TV, I was holding it. I felt as if I were at Wembley. I was in Indonesia, and the jet was booked, but sometimes family comes first in an emergency, but the fans and my fellow co-owners were present.”

Last season, Ipswich Town gained promotion from League One, followed by a second-place finish in the Championship, earning a spot in the Premier League. United player Cameron Brannagan has already stated that the Tractor Boys are a huge inspiration to him, and Bakrie has similar objectives for the U’s.

He stated, “We want to keep our best players.” We are confident that it will be hard.

“Owners dream about the Premier League. We are happy to be part of Oxford and take it extremely seriously.

“Bringing the club to the Championship is a dream, and we hope to move forward, but we won’t expect it to happen tomorrow.

“But, like anything in life, with hard work and togetherness through good times and bad, there is no reason why we should not dream big and get to the Premier League.” Bakrie also congratulated United’s head coach, Des Buckingham, for his key part in the club’s promotion this season.

“I think Des fits right in and is willing to take the challenges,” Bakrie stated.

“He sees eye-to-eye with the squad and the management team, and he realizes that as an Oxford man, he has a lot of goals, aspirations, and difficulties.

shoulders.
“I could sense he was scared at first, but that is typical for a human being; he is a fighter who wants to do his best.

“I see confidence and progress, a journey, a desire to do better game by game which is all you can ask for as an owner.”
