Justin Jefferson’s contract negotiation takes a big hit as star receiver skips OTAs

The top wide receiver has not come to an agreement with the Minnesota Vikings, and tension is felt. The Minnesota Vikings began their OTAs on Monday, and everyone in attendance could feel what the next season would bring. J. J. McCarthy is the new quarterback who will take over the offense, and his presence in the building will be needed early and often on the practice field to begin developing chemistry with his wide receivers, particularly Justin Jefferson, the group’s leader.

But there’s one minor issue. Just as everyone feels the new season, they may also feel the absence of their great wideout. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jefferson was not seen at the team’s training facility at the start of organized team activities, which is believed to be related to his contract status.

The former LSU standout is nearing the final year of his rookie contract, with a fifth-year option worth $19.7 million, and he obviously wants to ensure his future in Minnesota.

The Vikings and the receiver have been discussing a new contract extension, but a lack of movement prompted him to express his dissatisfaction with the negotiations.

Will he be a no-show if there is no extension soon?
Minnesota has six days of OTAs planned for the rest of May, but what’s coming up in June is different. The organized team activities are optional, and players may skip them without repercussions, even if there are any hard emotions inside the organization toward members who do not show up.

However, from June 4th to June 6th, a minicamp will be held, and if Justin Jefferson does not attend, he will be penalized. Minnesota has been tense recently, but the head coach remains optimistic.

Kevin O’Connell spoke with Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams and professed confidence on the topic. “I know everything’s going to get worked out there. Justin knows the love and admiration that I have for him, and he knows he’s such a big part of what we do around here.”
