BREAKING : Sheffield Wednesday have now ‘initiated contact’ with a club in a bid to sign their ‘fantastic’ striker.

Sheffield Wednesday have ‘started contact’ with a club in an effort to recruit their ‘great’ striker.

Sheffield Wednesday are still weeks away from the transfer market starting, but they appear to be getting their business started. The Owls’ first summer challenge was to sign Danny Rohl to a new contract, which they accomplished within a month of the season’s completion.

The club can now look forward to expanding its roster, with Rohl due to be given finances to bring in his own players.

The German took his first crack at the transfer market in January and was very successful, with Ike Ugbo, James Beadle, and Ian Poveda all contributing significantly to their survival.

The team is still looking to sign all three players this summer, and it looks they have already made a move to sign Ike Ugbo.

Sheffield Wednesday makes move to recruit Ike Ugbo.
According to The Star’s Alex Miller, Wednesday have already ‘started communication’ regarding a deal for the striker.

Miller posted on X: “Understand Sheffield Wednesday are one of a number of clubs to have initiated contact over the potential transfer of Ike Ugbo.”Any agreement is unlikely to be reached before the Copa America, in which Ugbo is scheduled to play for Canada.”

Ugbo scored seven goals in 18 games for Wednesday this year, after joining from Troyes in January.

The ‘excellent’ forward has two years left.

his contract in France and Troyes are surely going to look to cash in on him, rather than sending him back out on loan. Can the Owls afford to sign him permanently?
Ugbo’s current market value is around £2.4m, but if there are already a number of clubs interested, then that price could well shoot up.

The Owls will surely take an advantage into the race for his signature, given his success at Hillsborough for the past five months.

However, while Dejphon Chansiri has promised to inject some funds into the club, spending millions on one player may not be in his plans.

Recent reports have already claimed that he will look to spend his money on high wages rather than transfer fees – a claim that could cause problems in Wednesday’s pursuit of Ugbo.
