Charlton Athletic are now close to announced the signing of another 31-year-old fantastic midfielder

Charlton Athletic is in talks to sign Luton Town midfielder Luke Berry.

The Hatters, who were relegated from the Premier League, recently revealed that the 31-year-old will be freed when his contract expires at the end of June.

And the South London Press believes that Addicks manager Nathan Jones is eager to reunite with Berry, whom he bought from Cambridge United in 2017.

Charlton are pursuing a variety of targets, including Dunfermline left-back Josh Edwards.

Berry, speaking on Luton Town’s official website following his departure, stated: “Three promotions. Four different divisions. Seven years. What a ride!

“When I signed in 2017, the goal was clearly to move out of League Two and into the Championship. What about the Premier League? Being interviewed for Match of the Day? You’re surely laughing! My time at Luton may have come to an end, but the adventure has been all Nathan and Gary (Sweet, CEO) promised–and more.

“To every manager, coach, and teammate, thank you for making these seven years the best of my life.

“Thank you to the board for spending the money to get me here, and especially to the medical and sports science team who have assisted me in recovering from injuries, getting fit, and staying fit in order to fulfill a childhood dream of playing in the Premier League.

“I’ve met so many wonderful people and made friends for life. I can’t thank the fans enough for singing my name from the beginning. The way you’ve supported us through all of the promotions, especially this season, has been incredible.”

Jones spoke with our paper at the close of last season and mentioned Berry as one of the crucial signings Luton made before winning League Two.

“We brought in Luke Berry, who was the top midfield goalscorer in lower leagues consecutively, because we wanted goals,” Jones stated.

“If we sign players who we believe are the ideal fit for us and have had promotions on their resume, it can only help. This does not imply that we will only do that. We will sign. the ones we believe are best for the positions we need to fill.”
