Paul Warne reveals Peterborough and Portsmouth texts and what Championship managers told him

DerbyshireLive gives you the latest Derby County news, including what Paul Warne has said about texts he received after earning promotion. Following Derby County’s record-breaking season, Paul Warne revealed that he received congratulations texts from Championship managers, as well as messages from Darren Ferguson and John Mousinho of Peterborough and Portsmouth respectively.

Warne led the Rams to their first promotion in 17 years, finishing second in League One to ensure their return to the second division with the most away wins and points of any Rams team in history.

And, after leading Derby to victory, Warne stated that several managers contacted him following a successful season, with those in the second division playfully telling him how amazing the Championship has been. “I got a message from Fergie, and I had one from Darrell Clarke, who was at Cheltenham,” Warne told Derbyshire Live. “There were a lot of communications, primarily from Champions League clubs. A couple were amusingly remarking, ‘excellent luck, it’s gotten excellent again by the way’. I replied, ‘Oh, I know.

“I had a couple jokes like that. I received texts from both the Luton and Portsmouth managers. I texted him as soon as they were up. You become friendly with some supervisors because they’ve been around for

You deal with them on a regular basis. And then the more times you play against them, the more respect you acquire, so Darren Ferguson, for example, I see him frequently. When they made it to the EFL Trophy final, I texted him to say congratulations, but I didn’t get a response, and I thought, ‘Well, he’s not the man I thought he was!’ “I phoned Dale Tonge (Peterborough coach), one of my close pals. I was supposed to attend his wedding this summer, but I’m on vacation with my family.

“I texted him and asked, what about your gaffer? He went, “What do you mean?” I claimed I texted him twice; what’s the deal with him? Who wouldn’t text back a thumbs up? “So then I got a text from Fergie on a different phone saying, ‘Warney, I’m so sorry. I understand you’re unhappy with me, or something like that. I said, ‘Oh, thank God! You give me hope for life and football. Football managers are extremely competitive, but outside of the game, we all get along because we all understand the suffering that each of us is experiencing.”
