Swindon Town fans explained their reasons for renewing their season tickets, since numbers have decreased for next season. With the Early Bird deadline approaching this week, The Adver chatted with fans who had chosen to renew to learn what had prompted their decision. Each respondent stated that spending time with friends or family was the driving force behind their decision.
Simon Batchelor said: “A bunch of us met in the 1990s and have been going on a regular basis for the past 30 years.
“We’ve all dispersed around the county and beyond, so we only see each other on matchdays.
“I have also got two sons and I used to go a lot with my eldest son and now he has a job, my youngest son is really keen on going and I don’t want to take that away from him.”
Emerson Wray added, “I renewed my season ticket with my brother and father; we’ve had those seats together for years and use Swindon Town as a means to see each other throughout the year.
“I have to admit, this has been the first time I’ve considered not renewing because as of right now, I can’t name a positive thing about supporting Swindon.”
There was also a belief among those spoken to that if those family or friend links were not a consideration,
Given the current situation of the club, they may not have renewed. Ben Nicholls stated, “Going to Swindon is my day with my son, and he would not comprehend if I told him we weren’t going to do it anymore.
“If it was just me then I would pick and choose my games.”
There was also unanimity that the worries about renewing stemmed from off-field concerns rather than on-field problems.
Alfie Sims stated, “I’d say off-field [is a bigger factor] as you support your team win or lose, and I’ve sat through many awful performances over the years, but I feel alienated, mistreated, and misled to as a fan by the ownership, and that is not something I want to give my money too.”
