QPR have been connected with Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who has now shown a clear wish to leave Chippa United.
Following their successful Championship survival bid, QPR will undoubtedly be in the transfer market looking for new recruits this summer. It will be their first summer transfer window under Marti Cifuentes, who oversaw the R’s escape from the relegation zone in the 2023/24 season. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is said to be on the Loftus Road radar. In March, Fabrizio Romano revealed that QPR were among the admirers.
The 27-year-old’s opinion on a prospective exit is now clear.
According to FarPost, the Nigeria international remarked that everyone in his position with interest from bigger clubs ‘would love to leave’, indicating a desire to move on from Chippa United.
He said:
“Well, everyone would love to leave because when you are in some position, you need to grow.”Like everyone else in my position, I want to advance. I’m referring to higher-level clubs because I’ve given my all to my current team this season.
“I just wish to have another challenge at some other place.”
Nwabali’s statement confirms his intention to transfer, providing hope for those interested. QPR aren’t his only fans; according to Romano’s source, he is also interested in Saudi Arabia. Few people will blame him for choosing this viewpoint. Nwabali, born in Lagos, has been at South African club Chippa United since 2022, having previously spent his entire career in Nigeria. He has 12 clean sheets in 29 games in all competitions this season, bringing his national appearance total to 11.
Nwabali, 27, may not have many more possibilities to make a huge move to England with QPR or a financially rewarding switch to Saudi Arabia.
The R’s goalkeeping situation
QPR are expected to be looking for a new starting goalkeeper this summer.
Asmir Begovic’s exit has yet to be confirmed, but with his contract expiring, he will leave the West London club as things are.
Jordan Archer’s departure means that just Joe Walsh will be on the roster for next season. As a result, the R’s may need to bring in two shot-stoppers.
Nwabali is clearly interested in leaving his current club, but whether he joins QPR remains to be seen.
