Sheffield Wednesday are currently battling to sign three potential strikers.

Sheffield Wednesday sorely need to acquire at least one new striker this summer, in addition to a new goalkeeper and some more youth in key areas. As it stands, Danny Rohl has only three out-and-out forwards available for next season: Bailey Cadamarteri, Michael Smith, and Mallik Wilks.

Ashley Fletcher and Lee Gregory have left, as has Ike Ugbo, whom the Owls want to re-sign this summer.

Mika Biereth, an Arsenal striker who impressed for Sturm Graz on loan after the Owls missed out on a January loan transfer, is also on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar.

Rohl is also known as Duncan McGuire.

Sheffield Wednesday were interested in McGuire in January but were unable to sign him; the Owls are also hoping to renew their interest in him this summer. Duncan McGuire’s latest injury with Orlando City.
McGuire has started the 2024 MLS season in good form for Orlando City, scoring five goals in 12 league games. However, the 23-year-old missed his most recent outing against the Columbus Crew due to a shoulder injury incurred in the previous game.

Now, journalist Mike Gramajo has discovered that McGuire has traveled with the Orlando City squad to face the Chicago Fire on Thursday morning in the United Kingdom, and that he will also face the New York Red Bulls over the weekend.

McGuire then appears to be closing in on a quick return to play following his injury scare, which may trigger some new thinking from Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday gave Duncan McGuire a boost
Sheffield Wednesday may have been tracking Biereth since January, but ties emerged in the media with the news of McGuire’s injury at Orlando City.

So it’s possible that the Owls were concerned about McGuire’s major injury, but now that it looks McGuire’s injury is minor, the club’s striker search could be wide open.

Rohl currently has three names on his radar: Ugbo, McGuire, and Biereth, with Sheffield Wednesday likely to have many more on their radar that we are unaware of.

With McGuire’s strong start this season, he could be a solid choice to come in later in the summer and hit the ground running at the start of the following season.

That is, assuming he is not signed by anyone else and returns to action and scoring form as soon as possible.

Ugbo’s position remains unclear, as does Biereth’s; however, rumors in Austria suggest that Sturm Graz is unlikely to re-sign the striker due to interest from England.

It’s unclear who of the three strikers Sheffield Wednesday will sign this summer. However, McGuire’s apparent minor injury may have an impact on the search.
