Calgary Stampeders confirm key player season-ending knee surgery after

Malik Henry, a Calgary Stampeders wide receiver, is scheduled to need season-ending knee surgery after suffering a patellar tendon injury during practice on Tuesday.

The American receiver was placed on the six-game injury list (opens in a new tab) in a similar move, the team stated Wednesday. “It’s a heartbreaking situation after seeing Malik work so hard to come back from his Achilles tendon injury last year,” the Stampeders general manager and head coach, Dave Dickenson, stated in a press release.

“As an organization, we will do all possible to help Malik. In the meanwhile, we must continue to prepare for the season and have everyone stand up to fill the hole.

Henry missed the most of the 2023 season due to a non-contact Achilles injury, only appearing in three games.

The 27-year-old had a breakout season in 2022, totaling 1,023 yards on 62 receptions and eight touchdowns.
The Stampeders signed Henry to a three-year contract extension (opens in a new tab) in 2022, which would keep him with the organization until 2025.
