BREAKING : Portsmouth chief Andy Cullen delivers recruitment update as transfer work accelerates

Andy Cullen indicated that Pompey’s recruitment drive remained on track.

However, the Blues’ manager conceded that his club is entering a more difficult transfer landscape as they pursue summer players. The transactions are being announced across the EFL, despite the fact that the transfer market does not open for another two weeks.
Pompey are unlikely to follow in the footsteps of other teams, having previously waited until the window formally opens under Cullen’s leadership. That is not to say that work isn’t being done behind the scenes, with transactions being made before they are verified after the shutters open on June 14.

Cullen and John Mousinho have both voiced their intention to bring players in before

The squad departs for warm-weather training at the end of June. This is a greater problem than last year, when 10 of the 14 transactions were done before the Blues headed to Spain.

Cullen reported encouraging progress, with Pompey being on schedule to make the necessary acquisitions to prepare for the Championship.

He stated, ‘Things are going well, and we’re still doing the necessary work.

‘We have Rich (Hughes), Brad (Wall), myself, and Tony Brown, and we’re always discussing and communicating with our targets, which is great news. We’re pushing forward.

‘We are clearly still at the end of May, and we are aware of last season. So we’d prefer to get as much done as possible early on, but the Championship’s recruitment market will be much tougher than League One. That is a certainty.

‘But we’re very, very focused on our aims, which have always been the same. We’re hoping to hear good news soon.
