What Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart said about this summer recruitment

Steve Evans is on holiday after adding six new players to his Rotherham United side, but he expects more to arrive in the next “week to 10 days” thanks in large part to chairman Tony Stewart rediscovering his love of football.
Joe Powell, Josh Rafferty, Sean Raggett, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Reece James, and Shaun McWilliams have established the groundwork for manager Evans’ rebuild following Championship relegation, but he is still seeking for “three or four” more, with at least some of them to be completed swiftly.

He also emphasized how vital Stewart has been in closing several transactions.

“When I first joined the club, I read and heard him say that he’d lost a little bit of love; now he’s kissing, hugging, and loving because he’s been wonderful. I genuinely appreciate the chairman stepping in three or four times and making those transactions happen when we believed players would be leaving,” Evans told his club’s website. “We thought Rafferty, Raggett, and Jono Clarke-Harris were moving on, so the chairman said, ‘Let me come down to the stadium and see if we can get this over the line.'”

FAST START: Rotherham United's recruitment has gone into overdrive under Steve Evans

“Every day, I get phone calls and texts asking where we are with our targets because we have not stopped working; we will continue to strive to add to the group.

“I believe I would characterize it to our supporters as a new residence. I told the chairman that we had laid the groundwork for the future. We’ve kept some pretty good footballers, and that should not be overlooked. One or two of those individuals may leave us. If they sit in front of me and say they don’t want to be here, say ‘bye!’

“But if they want to be here, they’re incredibly fantastic footballers mixed in with other really good footballers.

“We may add to that basis over the next week to ten days, but we will do it wisely, with some little bits of quality and diamonds that we believe are required to complete the squad, and we are clearly in a good place. We’re looking forward to finishing the puzzle.

“We’re going to have a good season it’s just degrees of how good it is.”
