Dear reader, we are at the foothills of transfer silly season. And The Star is here to quench Sheffield Wednesday fans’ every imaginable thirst as the weather warms up.
From genuine transfer exclusives to lists of available free agents, we’ll be on hand to cover the next few months in fine detail as Danny Röhl seeks to make the changes to his squad that will propel the Owls away from relegation and towards the top 10 finish he has spoken about since signing a three-year contract last week.
We’ll be collaborating with Twitter-famous football pundit – and Wednesday supporter – TWFootball to generate some of the most discerning lists of players the Owls should
– and
His investigation indicates that he could be targeting. The names on the first list vary from well-known local players to Premier League starlets, with a healthy dose of completely unknown overseas bargains tossed in.Here’s the first installment.
1. Tyrese Campbell – Stoke
Campbell, who is set to leave Stoke in the coming weeks, did everything except score last year. He ranked in the top 10% of Championship strikers in the following categories: progressive passes, progressive passes received, progressive carries, shot-creating actions, total shots, and blocks. The 24-year-old is capable of playing in any of the front three positions. The truth is that if Campbell had scored the goals his overall performance deserved, he would not be available for free. It’ll be a true Moneyball signing for whoever picks Campbell up.
2. Samuel Dahl – Djurgården.
The Swedish left-back has played every minute of his club’s season so far (11 games in), following a strong performance in 2023, when he assisted eight times. Dahl is an offensive player with a powerful left foot who averages 2.5 progressive runs per 90 minutes. Dahl is physically and stylistically similar to Ipswich Town’s Leif Davis. Dahl is on a long contract, so it would cost Wednesday. But is this the type of long-term deal required at left back?
3. Shandon Baptiste, Brentford
Brentford have confirmed that the 26-year-old Grenada international will leave West London at the end of the season when his contract expires. This season, the midfielder played only 200 minutes in the Premier League and scored once. Baptiste has great talent and should contribute significantly to the title. Baptiste performed well in the 2022/23 Premier League season, averaging 1.6 critical passes per 90 minutes.
4. Robin Heußer, Wehen Wiesbaden.
The Wehen Wiesbaden central midfielder’s contract ends in the summer, and he is expected to leave the relegated club at the end of the season. Despite playing with the league’s bottom squad, Heußer has been a standout performance in the Bundesliga.2. Heußer is in the top 10% of central midfield players in the following categories: shot creation, expected assists, critical passes, tackles won in the middle third, interceptions, blocks, and ball recovery. Heußer, 26, is also a set piece specialist, having contributed six assists this season.
