Derek Adams, Morecambe’s new manager, met with Swindon Town, according to Patreon writer Alan Nixon.
Morecambe have brought back the Scot for a third time. The Shrimps are ready for another year in League Two after finishing 15th last season with 58 points.
Adams, 48, has decided to return to the North West outfit. He has had additional ‘possibilities’ in recent months, and journalist Nixon wrote on Patreon that he spoke with Swindon Town about their managing post.
He has recently returned to the Mazuma Stadium, telling the club website, “I’m looking forward to it! Morecambe FC is a team I am familiar with from my previous two seasons there, and I am excited to get started.
“There is a lot of work to be done over the transfer window to get ready for the start of the new season, and I know the Board of Directors were looking for a manager who knows the football club and how it works.”
The Morecambe manager had Swindon Town discusses.
Swindon Town have chosen Mark Kennedy as their next manager, following a lengthy search for Michael Flynn’s successor. Last term, Gavin Gunning was in charge on an interim basis.
Morecambe have been examining their options after Ged Brannan left them to become an assistant at fellow fourth-tier club Accrington Stanley.
Adams first joined them in 2019 and led them to promotion to League One against all odds.
He played as a midfielder for Aberdeen, Burnley, and Motherwell, appearing in over 300 games until retiring in 2009.
The Glasgow native began his managing career with Ross County and Plymouth Argyle before joining the Shrimps.
Adams left the Lancashire club in 2021 after Bradford City approached him, but he returned for a second tenure shortly after the Bantams sacked him.
Ross County tempted him back to Scotland late last year, but he was released by the Staggies in February.
What’s next for Morecambe and Swindon Town?
Morecambe’s choice to entice Adams back could be wise because he knows the club well and has previous experience in the Football League.
They hope to finish better in the division next season and have a lot of work to do on the transfer front.
The same goes for Swindon Town, who will be hoping former Lincoln City player Kennedy can lead them to victory.
