Burton Albion has become the fourth club in League One to appoint a new manager ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers’ League One rivals, have appointed Chelsea Under-21s manager Mark Robinson as their new head coach for the 2024/25 season, following the resignation of Martin Paterson.
Robinson has been in charge of the Blues’ Under-21s for the past two years, having previously been the head coach of AFC Wimbledon in the third division. The 41-year-old has a great reputation for developing young players.
Robinson has been credited with the development of several players, including Will Nightingale, Toby Sibbick, Anthony Harrigan, Jack Rudoni, Ayoub Assal, Jack Currie, and Burton’s Ryan Sweeney.
Paterson replaced Dino Maamria at the Pirelli Stadium in January and narrowly led Burton to League One survival, finishing 20th, two points ahead of Cheltenham. The club confirmed the 37-year-old’s exit last week, following the expiration of his short-term contract.
The hiring makes Staffordshire the fourth League One club to hire a new manager ahead of the new season, following Huddersfield Town (Michael Duff), Stevenage (Alex Revell), and Barnsley (Darrell Clarke). At least one more will be made this summer, as demoted Birmingham City continues to hunt for Tony Mowbray’s permanent replacement following his departure to focus on his health.
Last season, the Brewers defeated Rovers twice, winning 4-1 at the Pirelli in October and 2-1 at the Mem in February. The EFL fixtures for this season will be released on Wednesday, June 26.
