DEAL DONE : QPR has announced the signing of another premier league star on free agent

QPR have signed Jack McDowell after he left Aston Villa, according to their official website.
QPR have swooped to sign the defender on a free transfer, and he will initially join their Development Squad. McDowell, 18, left Aston Villa at the end of the 2023/24 season and has found a new home in the Championship.

He told the Hoops website, “I’m excited.” I had the opportunity to trial with QPR for a week and absolutely enjoyed it.

“I absolutely enjoyed the players, the facilities, the coaches, and the entire staff. Then I was fortunate enough to be offered a bargain, which I had to accept.

“Now the aim is to do well for the Development Squad – pushing to train and play with the first team. There is a lot of hard work ahead of me, but I know it’s something that I can achieve. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

QPR will see McDowell as one for the future and someone who could potentially break into their first-team down the line.
In the meantime, his focus will be on catching the eye for the Under-21’s and helping them succeed in the next campaign. The teenager has been on the books at Aston Villa for his whole career to date and rose up through the academy ranks of the Midlands outfit.

He represented them at various different youth levels and signed a scholarship deal back in 2022.

However, his contract expires this summer, and the Villans chose not to grant him professional terms, prompting his departure from the club.

McDowell made 12 competitive appearances for Aston Villa’s Under-18s past season, scoring two goals from defence. He did not play for the senior team under Unai Emery, however.

What’s next for QPR?
QPR will be excited for next season and have some momentum under Marti Cifuentes.

The addition of McDowell demonstrates that they have one eye on the future.

The R’s will also be looking at first-team signings as they strive to move up the table.
