BREAKING NEWS : Rotherham United manager checks out Plymouth Argyle link with 32-year-old, striker

ROTHERHAM United boss Steve Evans has knocked down reports linking forward Jordan Hugill to Plymouth Argyle.
The Devon club, now led by former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney, is claimed to be interested in the 32-year-old, who has a contract with AESSEAL New York Stadium until June 2026.

Hugill joined Rotherham from Norwich in January and has helped the team stay in the Championship under Matt Taylor. Although the Middlesbrough-born striker man struggled last season, he now has the opportunity for a fresh start under Evans, who learned about the Plymouth link and spoke with the player earlier this week.

The employer told the Advertiser: “I saw the reports, so I called with Jordan, who informed me that he wasn’t aware of anything and that if he was, he would let me know out of professional courtesy.

“One thing I have learnt in the short time knowing Jordan is that he’s a real good lad and taking references from people like David Moyes, he’s a real honest kid.”Wayne Rooney was a great as a player and has yet to show himself as a manager. I know Wayne; he has my phone number, and I’m confident that if he is interested, he will call.

“If Plymouth want some dialogue then we’ll decide as a club what we want to do on that one.”

Evans has made seven new signings thus far, with experienced midfielder Liam Kelly from Coventry City the most recent addition.

Despite the fact that the boss has been on vacation, the search for additional new faces has continued under the leadership of Rob Scott, head of recruitment.

“I’m fed up saying it, but the chairman has been brilliant with myself and Rob,” Evans remarked. “When I first joined the football team, everyone knew we had to work together. We’re working together, and we can see how hard each of us works to ensure that the Millers’ plan is correct.

“While I’ve been away, I’d like to publicly apologize to Rob for waking him up at 5 a.m., keeping him awake in the middle of the night, and forgetting the time zones.
