West, 40, is held at the Fairfax County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond. The eight-year NBA veteran was supposed to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Eastern on Friday. West was detained in Groveton, Virginia, early Thursday morning as officers sought to serve him with a warrant. He fled the scene, prompting a pursuit in which officers lost sight of West before discovering him unconscious. Officers gave West Narcan, which is meant to reverse a narcotic overdose in an emergency, but it “did not have the desired effect,” officials said, according to WJLA7 News in Arlington. West was given Narcan a second time, which helped, and was brought to a local hospital before being transferred to the Fairfax County Detention Center.

Delonte West played for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2007 to 2010.

This is not the first time West has been in legal trouble. West enrolled at a drug recovery program in Florida in 2020, after a photo of him standing on the side of a road asking for money went viral. Earlier that year, footage leaked on social media depicting West being violently beaten on the street before being handcuffed.

West played in the NBA for eight seasons, from 2004 to 2012, after being picked in the first round by the Boston Celtics out of St. Joseph’s University. After three seasons in Boston, he was moved to the Seattle Supersonics as part of a five-player deal that brought superstar guard Ray Allen to the Celtics.

After a half-season with the Supersonics, he was traded to the Cavaliers in February 2008 as part of a blockbuster three-team trade that included him, Wally Szczerbiak, Ben Wallace, and Joe Smith as backup to former Cavaliers superstar LeBron James. West spent two and a half seasons with the Cavs before returning to Boston for the 2010-11 NBA season. He finished his career with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011-12.

West’s career averages were 9.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game in 27.4 minutes over 432 games, including 258 starts.
