Luton Town are now leading Millwall in the race to sign 25 years old premier league defender

Japhet Tanganga is expected to be on many clubs’ radars after being released by Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Luton Town have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur center-back Japhet Tanganga. Tanganga, who spent the latter part of the previous season on loan at Millwall, made a strong impression there, forcing the Lions to seek another deal to bring him back to The Den.

Tanganga was first signed to a long-term contract in 2020, therefore it seems improbable that he would depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for free until next year. However, he is due to be released on June 30th, giving numerous teams the option to acquire him without a transfer fee, a scenario that many clubs will be keen for.

to exploit.
While the Lions have a good chance of signing Tanganga due to their previous loan agreement, they may face significant competition from other clubs vying for the defender’s services. According to journalist Thomas, numerous Championship clubs, including Luton, are interested in Tanganga. A transfer to this tier could provide him more playing time than he has at Spurs.

Despite continued discussions between the Lions and Tanganga over a permanent contract, an agreement has yet to be achieved. This delay has given other teams the opportunity to make offers for the player if they wish to.

Tanganga will face a difficult decision between staying in England and going to Italy if he receives offers from both teams. Given his extensive game time and experience with living at The Den, he may be tempted to make a permanent transfer there.
Similarly, considering Luton’s proximity to London, a transfer to Kenilworth Road may be feasible. Furthermore, with Luton looking to compete for promotion again next season, such a move could be beneficial, albeit he would require assurances about playing time. However, if Tanganga can excel in Serie A and play considerable minutes, it is not surprising that he will eventually return to the Premier League.
