According to TWTD, Ipswich Town’s links to Nottingham Forest player Lewis O’Brien are ‘broad of the mark’.
According to writer Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, and Middlesbrough have all expressed interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the forthcoming transfer window. He was on loan with the latter in the Championship last season. O’Brien is set to return to Nottingham Forest for preseason, but his long-term future with the Premier League club remains uncertain. His contract at The City Ground expires in June 2026, although he is down the pecking order.
In this latest update on his position, TWTD say the Tractor Boys.
They are not chasing a deal for him as they prepare for life in the Premier League. They finished second in the table, behind Leicester City. Ipswich Town’s viewpoint is detailed. O’Brien began his career in Huddersfield Town’s academy and gained experience on loan at Bradford City before joining the first-team.
He helped the Yorkshire club to the play-off final under Carlos Corberan before joining Nottingham Forest. However, the Colchester native has struggled to make an impact at his present club.
He was loaned out to America to join DC United in the MLS before joining Middlesbrough on a temporary deal last year.
O’Brien went on to make 25 appearances for Michael Carrick’s team in all competitions, 23 of which were in the league.
Ipswich Town Plans
Ipswich Town will need to get their recruitment right over the next few months as they prepare for the top flight.
They have been buoyed by the fact that Kieran McKenna has committed his future to the club, and they will now be looking to add additional quality to their ranks. Dominic Ball, Panutche Camara, Nick Hayes, and Kayden Jackson left recently as free agents, while forward Sone Aluko retired from the
game.
O’Brien would be a good addition for a second-tier club, but he is unlikely to make the Tractor Boys’ starting lineup.
According to TWTD, Ipswich Town’s lack of interest in signing him may now allow Middlesbrough and Sheffield United to step in.
