BREAKING : “Around the £1m mark” – Rotherham United told to reluctantly cash in on 25-year-old

The Millers had a disappointing season last year, but that doesn’t mean their roster is without sellable goods. Rotherham United are preparing for a return to League One next season after two years in the Championship at the New York Stadium.

Millers fans were extremely disappointed with the season, as the club’s relegation was confirmed as early as the first week of April after only five league wins.

This was enough to cost manager Leam Richardson his job that month, and he was replaced by club legend Steve Evans, who led the Millers up the EFL from League Two to the Championship between 2012 and 2015.

And in his first summer back in command of the South Yorkshire side, Evans has already begun to put his stamp on the squad, with no less than seven new arrivals this summer.

Rotherham United may need to sell a player at some stage to balance the books, or they may receive an offer too good to refuse for one of their first-team players, some of whom will undoubtedly believe they can still make an impact at Championship level.

Rotherham United could perhaps cash in on Christ Tiehi.

And if the Millers were to sell one player this summer, Football League World’s Rotherham fan analyst Tom Eyre believes Christ Tiehi will fetch a higher price than the whole of Evans’ squad.

“He’s definitely the club’s most valuable player. Tom said FLW, “His output is exactly what a Championship team needs; he keeps the ball well, covers a lot of ground, breaks up play, and does everything you want in a central-defensive midfielder.” And, while Tom does not want Tiehi to leave the New York Stadium, he believes the Millers may receive a good price for the France-born engine room operator this summer.

“I believe we have let go of

Many of the players I would have been pleased to cash in on, Jamie Lindsay would have been one of them, but he turned down his contract,” Tom added. “On a purely financial basis, it would have to be Tiehi. As I have stated, strictly in terms of monetary value, I believe we would receive a high price for him and would require that money.

“I wouldn’t want to get rid of him personally; I think he’s a great asset, and I believe he’ll be even more valuable when we return to the Championship in a few years.

Season over for Rotherham United's Christ Tiehi

“Sort of like Dan Barlaser. So, definitely him, but I wouldn’t like to

“I see him go.”

Christ Tiehi would be a significant loss for Rotherham United. Tiehi has established himself as a rock at the heart of the Millers’ midfield after signing a three-year contract last summer for a Rotherham United club record amount.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the former Wigan Athletic player has demonstrated his ability to assist in attacking areas, demonstrating his versatility as a midfielder.

An average match rating of 6.8/10 may not jump out of the screen, but to average almost seven out of ten each week in a side that lost 29 of their 46 league games last season is an excellent return.

It isn’t controversial to say that Tiehi would be among the best central midfield players in League One next season, which is why Rotherham should do their best to resist any temptation of selling on their prized asset. He would be instrumental to any potential promotion next season, and would prove an incredibly difficult presence to replace in the heart of the Millers midfield. As a testament to this, only three percent of Championship central midfielders had more recoveries than Tiehi’s 266 in the league last season – per FotMob.

Therefore, Rotherham fans will surely be crossing their fingers that Tiehi remains at the New York Stadium next season, and provides the metronome to the soundtrack of League One promotion in South Yorkshire.
