Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers have both arranged a testimonial for Richard Wood this summer.

The game will take place on Saturday, August 3, and it will be both clubs’ final pre-season game before the 2024/25 season begins the following week. A Rotherham United legend:
Wood departed the Millers last summer to join Doncaster Rovers, a club just across South Yorkshire. He has played 30 games for Grant McCann’s team, leading from the back and demonstrating that he is still capable of performing in the EFL.

He played nine years with Rotherham United, which is now in SkyBet League One, and made over 250 appearances. The 38-year-old led Rotherham to three promotions and a Papa Johns Trophy victory at Wembley Stadium, where he also served as captain.

According to Transfermarkt statistics, Richard Wood has played 659 games in his career and is nearing 700. His 256 appearances for Rotherham United followed 189 for Sheffield Wednesday, 134 for Coventry City, and a few other clubs.

He has played a total of 659 professional football games. Throughout his career, the centre-back has scored 42 goals and assisted on 20 others.

Doncaster Rovers have finished their pre-season schedule, indicating a busy preparation for the 2024/25 season.

McCann’s team will face Hull City, another Championship club in Middlesborough, as well as Darlington and Spennymoor Town from National League North. In addition, they will visit nearby Club Thorne and Lincolnshire-based Stamford AFC as part of their busy pre-season program.

Rotherham United’s pre-season schedule includes visits to Parkgate FC, Spalding United, and Alfreton Town, all non-league clubs.

Steve Evans’ Rotherham side will also face Championship rivals Sheffield United on the final weekend of July, before Doncaster visits the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
