Martyn Margetson has signed a new contract to be Swansea City’s head of goalkeeping.
The 52-year-old returned to the Swans last summer after spending two years with the club from 2019 to 2021, and has signed a three-year contract that will expire in the summer of 2027.
Margetson is now on international duty as England’s goalkeeping coach, ahead of the Euro 2024 finals in Germany. He previously helped the Three Lions go to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the Euro 2020 final.
“I am delighted Marge has signed a new contract and will remain with Swansea City,” said Swansea City manager Luke Williams.
“The quality of Marge’s coaching over the years, both at club and international levels, speaks for itself.
“He is generally respected in the game, and the fact that he is presently coaching in his fifth major tournament demonstrates this.
“His vast experience is a big asset to the club, and he will be so important in terms of what he provides for the goalkeepers at the club, and any who will join us.”
Margetson is from Port Talbot and began his playing career with Manchester City, entering their development system in 1988.
He went on to make 60 first-team appearances for the Maine Road side, along with spells with Bristol Rovers, Bolton, Luton Town, Southend, Huddersfield, and Cardiff, becoming

Margetson, who was capped by his country against Canada in 2004, then joined the Wales national team to work with Gary Speed in 2011. He continued active under Chris Coleman as the Dragons made an incredible journey to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
Margetson then moved to England in August 2016, initially working with Sam Allardyce and later joining Gareth Southgate’s backroom team.
He joined West Ham in 2014 before returning to Cardiff. He has since worked for Crystal Palace, Everton, and Swansea.
Margetson will continue to combine his ongoing England obligations with his role on Williams’ coaching staff.
