DONE DEAL: Portsmouth confirms departure of another brilliant star to Premier League top team.

Newcastle United has secured the youthful prodigy from Championship club Portsmouth.
Newcastle United are preparing to reinforce their academy with the signing of a highly regarded midfielder.

According to our sister publication The News, the Magpies have agreed to recruit 14-year-old CJ Afumuzor from Portsmouth. Afumuzor played eight years with Pompey, and the newly promoted Championship club is entitled to a transfer fee. However, the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) limits how much they can receive. The adolescent acknowledged his departure two weeks ago by writing on Instagram: “23/24 season completed. A huge thank you to @pompey and everyone at the club for their contributions over the last eight years. “Excited to see what the future holds 🤞🏾⚽️.”

As news of Afumuzor’s transfer circulated, numerous followers reacted on his Instagram photos. Afumuzor liked one comment, which said “welcome to Newcastle”. The Magpies have signed a number of talented young players in recent seasons, the most recent being Alfie Harrison from Manchester City. Trevan Sanusi and Leo Sharer arrived from Birmingham City and Wolves, respectively, last summer and have since signed professional contracts and represented England’s under-17 team. Below the under-21 and under-18 levels, United signed Kacey Wooster and Michael Mills from Southend United and Port Vale, respectively, a year ago, while Sam Alabi arrived from Oldham Athletic.
