BREAKING NEWS : Roberto De Zerbi set for instant return to management with Brighton, but on one condition

Brighton are expected to receive £5 million as Roberto De Zerbi nears a deal to Marseille, talkSPORT sources.

The Seagulls stated last month that they and the Italian had reached an agreement to terminate his contract.
De Zerbi signed in September 2022 as Graham Potter’s replacement and led the club to sixth place in the Premier League.

However, they finished 11th in the 2023/24 season, and he has since gone, with Ligue 1 club Marseille slated to be his next destination.

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook commented about the move on White and Jordan, explaining: “This is a developing story, but I’m informed that it is getting closer.

“De Zerbi, who of course left Brighton, bit of a bombshell announcement on the eve of their final game of the season at home to Manchester United, he agreed a mutual termination of his contract.”There were rumors that he was on Manchester United’s shortlist to replace Erik ten Hag, and negotiations between United and De Zerbi’s advisors did take place, but nothing more.

“There have been predictions that he may return to Italy, but I was always told that was doubtful. De Zerbi would like to manage in a different nation, which could be France or Marseille.

“When he was with Brighton, he had a release clause worth more than £10 million. As part of the contract termination agreement, the release clause was reduced. I understand it’s a sliding scale, so Brighton will still benefit financially from this transaction.

“However, keep an eye on De Zerbi, who may appear in Marseille. We know how passionate their followers are; I believe this will be either a match made in heaven or one made in hell.” According to talkSPORT, Brighton will receive £5 million in compensation for De Zerbi’s upcoming move to Marseille.

The Seagulls are nearing an agreement with St Pauli to hire Fabian Hurzeler as their next manager.

If Hurzeler makes the move to the south coast, he will become the Premier League’s youngest manager ever.

talkSPORT believes that personal terms have been reached with the American as they look forward to their next appointment before the new season begins.
