Blackburn Rovers have signed talented 18-year-old attacker Aodhan Doherty from Linfield. Rovers are said to have paid a fee for the outstanding Northern Ireland youth international, who has signed a three-year contract until 2027.
Doherty is set to join Mike Sheron’s Under-21s for the upcoming season as he adjusts to English football.
Rovers are eager to sign young talent to supplement their own Academy crop, with Igor Tyjon’s performance serving as an example of astute recruitment at the youth level.
For Doherty, it’s a great opportunity to flourish in the England game, and he’s excited to be a Rovers player.
“I’m very pleased to be here. I’m delighted it’s sorted, and hopefully I’ll be able to get started right away and try my best to earn my way up to the first team.”It’s a significant transition for me and my family. I’ve always wanted to be a professional footballer, so I’m delighted to be here and have the opportunity to play in England, where I want to flourish.
“Playing in England is always a dream for everyone, no matter where they come from. Few people, particularly those from Northern Ireland, have the opportunity to play in
England, so I’m pleased to be one of the lucky ones. “Blackburn Rovers is a very big club, they’ve won the Premier League, the stadium is incredible, the fans are top-notch, they’re a very excellent squad and a very well-run professional organization, so I’m glad to now be a part of it.
“One of the big reasons why I came here was because it’s a very family-orientated club and they always want to produce Academy graduates and I want to be one of those young players who makes it through to the first team.”
