The Reds may need to hunt for a new centre-back alternative. Queens Park Rangers appear to be in the market for a central defender, as the future of one of their top performers in this position is unknown. Rotherham United is said to be part of their hunt.
Burnley and Wolves have both expressed interest in Jake Clarke-Salter. According to John Percy of the Daily Telegraph, QPR has slapped a £5-7 million price tag on the 26-year-old in order to dissuade interest and retain his services.
However, the London-based club is conducting due diligence and preparing for life without him in the event that this occurs. One selection.
Cameron Humphreys of Rotherham is thought to be one of the players they considered. Last season, the 25-year-old was troubled by injuries and was a member of the Championship’s weakest defence.
According to Football Insider, the R’s are interested in him, but they may have to compete with Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, and Swansea City to sign him.
Louis Moir, Football League World’s QPR fan pundit, is not impressed by Humphreys’ claims. QPR should resist a move for Rotherham United defender Cameron Humphreys.
Moir does not believe the Rotherham defender is superior than the club’s present options, but concedes that they should look into prospective replacements in his position.
“Obviously you look at it and you look at a team that’s gone down, and of course there are players in teams that go down that are of good quality, but if you look at Cameron Humphreys at Rotherham, is he really better than what we’ve got at the minute?” Louis stated when speaking with FLW.
“We have Steve Cook, an experienced, talented centre-half at this level. Clarke-Salter: If he doesn’t leave, what a player to have on hand. Jimmy Dunne too. He used to play right-back, but he’s a decent centre-back.
Cameron Humphreys’ affiliations are not in line with QPR’s direction.
QPR have been a play-off team since New Year’s Day. They were the Championship’s sixth-best team in 2024, with a roster mostly made up of players predicted to leave at the start of the season. Marti Cifuentes has done an incredible job with the limited amount of time he has. Buying a relegated player who was not a notable player for the Millers, such as Viktor Johansson, appears to be a step backwards.
The Spaniard has the potential to lead this club to great success, but he will require assistance. Humphreys does not feel like much of that. Perhaps Cifuentes is the one who has targeted the Rotherham defender, and people could be proven wrong. It simply seems like they should be a little more daring given how good the current caretaker of the home dugout at Loftus Road is.
