DEPARTURE : Luton Town confirm the departure of another potential star

Charlton Athletic have agreed to buy midfielder Luke Berry from Luton Town, according to Football Insider sources.

Berry will depart Luton when his contract expires on June 30th, after seven years with the club, where he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in the 2022-23 season.
After only starting four games last season, he opted to depart Kenilworth Road in pursuit of more playing time. The 31-year-old will now sign a two-year contract with Charlton following a breakthrough in negotiations, with a medical set to take place shortly.

Luke Berry joins Charlton Athletic after leaving Luton Town.

Berry appeared 17 times in Luton’s debut season in the Premier League, starting only two of them as he failed to establish himself in the first squad.

He had a similar position in the club’s promotion season in 2022-23, making 21 of his 27 appearances from the bench and only four starts in the Championship. Charlton have now given the midfielder a chance to play regular football in League One.

The club hopes to improve on their disastrous 16th-place finish last season, when Nathan Jones took over in February and won only four of his first 16 games.

Jones previously worked with Berry at Luton and made his signing a top priority. The midfielder has previous experience achieving promotion from the third tier, having done it with Luton in 2018/19, his most recent stay in the league.

In other news, Manchester United are preparing a second bid to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
