Sheffield Wednesday legend sends Josh Windass a 15-word message amid exit speculation

Carlton Palmer has congratulated Josh Windass, amid recent speculation over his Sheffield Wednesday departure.

Josh Windass’ future at Sheffield Wednesday is in serious question, having initiated contract talks with the club after avoiding relegation last month. The midfielder was one of several players out of contract this summer, and his exploits at the conclusion of the season earned him a new deal.

Recent rumors stated he was close to signing a contract extension with the club, but talks appear to have broken down, and he is now said to have rejected down the current offer.

With Hull City and Coventry keen in recruiting Windass, he could be leaving Hillsborough after four and a half years.

While the 30-year-old has yet to pick where he will play football next season, he focused his attention elsewhere over the weekend, getting married in Rhode Island, USA.

Windass could be leaving Sheffield Wednesday, but Owls veteran Carlton Palmer wished him well after his big day.

Palmer posted on X: “Congratulations Josh I wish you and your wife all the future happiness in the world.”

Liam Palmer and Callum Paterson were in attendance at their wedding, having built strong bonds with the midfielder during their time at Hillsborough.

Wednesday’s return to pre-season training is still many weeks away, and Windass’ destiny will almost certainly be decided by then.

The midfielder’s contract predicament is a genuine concern.
After scoring three goals in the last three games of the season, it was no surprise that the club wanted to sign him to a new contract.

It had previously appeared that he would, but the apparent breakdown of the deal is a major issue for the Owls, especially after Will Vaulks also left the club.

Windass could join another Championship club, and they may have to compete with him if they want to climb the table the next season.

Wednesday must do everything possible to keep him, but they must also guarantee that this is not a summer-long tale that ends with no replacement when he rejects yet another contract offer at the end of the window.
