The 24-year-old’s switch south is expected to be confirmed within next 48 hours to join Charlton Athletic.

The 24-year-old’s move south is expected to be finalized within the next 48 hours. Josh Edwards, a Dunfermline defender, has signed a contract to join Charlton Athletic.

The 24-year-old arrived in London on Monday for a physical with the English League One club.

And it is understood that the left-back has now signed a long-term contract for nearly six figures.

Both teams are currently finalizing the details of the agreement that will conclude Edwards’ five-year tenure at East conclude Park.

However, an announcement is likely within the next 24-48 hours.

Charlton held off heavy competition from Bristol Rovers after both clubs’ bids were accepted by Dunfermline.

After the Fifers exercised their option to extend Edwards’ contract by 12 months until 2025, his contract included a release clause and fee.

Rovers made a strong push for the midfielder, and Barnsley had a bid rejected down in January, despite interest from Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United, and Blackpool.

But Charlton, led by Nathan Jones, a former Southampton, Luton Town, and Stoke City manager, won the race.

The Addicks finished 16th in League One last season, one spot below Bristol Rovers, but they expect to challenge for promotion under Jones next season.

A difficult task.
The agile Edwards will provide lots of alternatives on the left side of defence and midfield for Dunfermline, who will miss him greatly.

His departure leaves a huge vacuum in the Pars squad, and manager James McPake will face a difficult task in replacing a consistent and essential contributor.

The former Airdrie and Kilmarnock teenager appeared in all but 11 minutes of Dunfermline’s 36 league games last season, and he has nearly 200 appearances since coming in 2019.

Edwards joins free agents Alex Jakubiak, Paul Allan, Max Little, and Miller Fenton in leaving East End Park this summer, as well as six loanees. So far, Chris Kane is the lone newcomer, as the St Johnstone striker converted his loan into a two-year contract.
