BREAKING NEWS : QPR and Sheff Weds sent mocking 18-word transfer response by League One manager

QPR and Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a transfer for the Rotherham United defender.
Recruiting in defence could be a priority for QPR this summer, with star centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter reportedly a transfer target for Premier League club Wolves and Scottish Premiership heavyweights Celtic.

The 26-year-old is a mainstay of Marti Cifuentes’ defense and would leave a significant gap to fill. QPR were linked with a deal for Rotherham United’s Cameron Humphreys following the Millers’ relegation to League One.

It appeared to be a plausible proposition for the London club, with Sheffield Wednesday also reportedly interested in the youngster. Humphreys made 25 league appearances for Rotherham United last season and has one year left on his current contract, which could encourage the club to sell if an offer comes in.
However, Rotherham manager Steve Evans has since spoken out about the links, appearing to dismiss any suggestions of Championship interest in the star. When asked about the rumors, he quipped to the Rotherham Advertiser, “If he’s mentioned with Wednesday, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s mentioned with Thursday and Friday as well.”

“Cameron has been really good for me in the three games he’s played but we are not aware of any interest from any club.”

The defender began his career at Manchester City and moved through the youth system before joining Zulte Waregem in Belgium. He joined Rotherham United in 2022 and has made 67 appearances for them. His season last year was hampered by an injury near the tendon in October. That was characterized by then-Millers manager Matt Taylor as ‘about as catastrophic a hamstring injury as you can get’, keeping him out of play until February.

Evans was only reappointed as Rotherham manager in April, returning for a second time after previously leading the club from 2012 to 2015. He is known to be a Humphreys admirer, having previously named the player, along with two others, as ‘ones that stand out to me’ during his first weeks at the club.
