“New chapter” – Permanent exit confirmed for Leeds United man after 49ers contract decision

Lewis Bate was released by Leeds United after his contract expired this summer, and he has since joined newly promoted League One club Stockport County.

Leeds published their retained list for 24/25 earlier this month, and there were few shocks among the 49ers’ contract offers and discharged players.

Few of those discharged were in the first team, with the majority coming from the youth setup after failing to impress the seniors.

Lewis Bate confirms permanent transfer to Stockport County

The club confirmed the departure of outstanding midfielder Lewis Bate, who had spent the second half of the season with MK Dons in League Two.

Bate was signed from Chelsea for £1.5 million in 2021 but failed to break into the Leeds first team on a regular basis. He was catapulted into senior action in 21/22 before being loaned out to Oxford United in 2022.

Daniel Farke seems unimpressed by the midfielder, as he was frozen out last season before dropping to the fourth division.

Now that his contract has expired, he has been signed by League One side Stockport County following their promotion

Bate took to Instagram, where he received a lot of support from former Leeds teammates wishing him luck in his “new chapter”: There is no denying Bate’s quality, but we never saw it regularly in the Championship or Premier League, which is mostly due to pecking order.

He required better loan transfers, which he didn’t get, particularly last season, when Farke squandered half of his campaign by failing to get a loan for him.

Bate is a big purchase for Stockport, and he should help them progress in League One.
