BREAKING NEWS : Middlesbrough has appointed Aaron Danks replacement

Graeme Carrick is Michael’s younger brother and joins from Newcastle United. Middlesbrough have appointed Graeme Carrick as their first-team coach, replacing Aaron Danks on head coach Michael Carrick’s coaching staff.

Danks was a surprise departure from Middlesbrough this summer, after Vincent Kompany joined Bayern Munich and sought to reconcile with Carrick’s assistant coach after their brief time together at Anderlecht. Danks’ departure to the German powerhouse was announced last week after a compensation deal was agreed upon. But Boro had already begun work on replacing Danks, with Newcastle United granting permission to talk with Graeme, who has been working as the Magpies’ Lead Under-18 coach since

2022: With Jonathan Woodgate remaining as assistant coach, Graeme joins Boro’s coaching staff as a first-team coach, with Grant Leadbitter and Alan Fettis as goalkeeper coach. Newcastle United’s academy director, Steve Harper, said: “I’d want to congratulate Graeme for his outstanding job developing our young players both on and off the pitch. We may all be quite proud of a player or staff member who advances to the first team, whether here or elsewhere.

“Middlesbrough is getting a terrific guy, a very good coach, and we all wish him all the best in his new role. The search for a new Under-18s head coach is already underway.”

Boro were always thought to be searching for someone with a different profile than Danks, with Michael eager to be as hands-on as possible with coaching, having gotten a feel for how his role works in his time at Boro thus far – his first managerial role in football.

Graeme has 15 years of experience working in various junior development roles with the FA, and he specializes in individual player coaching and development. Because he is Carrick’s brother, there is an immediate connection and understanding, which should help him settle comfortably at his new club.

Graeme’s last game in command of the Newcastle young team was against Boro, with the Magpies winning a thrilling affair 4-3 to end their U18 Premier League campaign. in ninth – one place and five points ahead of Boro.
