JUST IN: Player waived by Toronto Raptors prior to NBA Draft

Mouhamadou Gueye recently completed his NBA rookie campaign.

The 25-year-old played in 11 games for the Toronto Raptors, averaging 2.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 28.9% shooting from the field at the end of the regular season.

The team waived Gueye, according to a report from TSN’s Josh Lewenberg on Tuesday.

According to Lewenberg, “The Raptors have waived Mouhamadou Gueye, who they had signed to a 2-way deal late last season.”

Gueye was on a two-way contract, so he was frequently in the G League.

Throughout 13 Showcase Cup Games, he shot 61.1% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range, averaging 15.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 3.1 blocks per game.

Raptors Announce Roster Move Ahead of NBA Draft

Gueye participated in 26 G League regular season games as well. During the season, he shot 21.4% from three-point range and 54.3% from the field, averaging 13.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Given his age of just 25 and his strong G League play, Gueye might be a player to keep an eye on for a two-way roster slot on another team.

With a 25-57 record, the Raptors finished as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference after a difficult season.

With the losses of OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet during the past 365 days, the team has been in rebuilding mode.

It was their second straight season without making it to the NBA playoffs.
