Wolves join race to sign £30m ‘super talent’ but there’s one problem facing Gary O’Neil

Wolves have entered the race to sign one transfer target who impressed in 2023/24, but there is a problem.

Gary O’Neil is looking for much-needed reinforcements this summer at Wolves, with two acquisitions already confirmed. Tommy Doyle’s loan from Manchester City was made permanent, while Rodrigo Gomes, who signed from Braga, was the summer’s first new signing.

Pedro Lima is set to sign a contract in the coming days, and O’Neil appears to have no plans to stop there. Wolves are interested in Sunderland’s winger Jack Clarke.
Wolves are looking for attackers this summer, and GIVEMESPORT is suggesting that the Old Gold have entered the competition to recruit Jack Clarke.

According to the source, the Midlands club is “interested” in the 23-year-old, while Crystal Palace is also said to be interested in the winger.

While Sunderland hopes to keep its prized talent, they are reported to be hard on an asking price of £25 million to £30 million, which GIVEMESPORT has highlighted as a potential stumbling block for Wolves. According to the report, the valuation is ‘barely above’ what Wolves would be ready to pay for the Englishman, with the Old Gold ‘unwilling’ to pay more than £20 million.

Given Clarke’s importance to Sunderland during the 2023/24 season, it would be unusual if the club negotiated a number lower than their asking price.

Gary O’Neil will hope that Wolves locate the

Funds for Clarke Clarke was hailed as a “super talent” by former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray last season, contributing to 19 Championship goals, scoring 15 and assisting four.

The winger might provide O’Neil with another straight outlet on the flank, but it is now unclear whether the Old Gold can raise the necessary finances to sign the 23-year-old.

Last summer, Wolves faced a similar dilemma with Championship prospect Viktor Gyokeres, who later joined Sporting CP after the Midlands club was unable to meet his £25 million asking price.

The Swedish striker went on to score 43 goals in 2023/24, leaving Wolves with a bitter taste in their mouths about what might have been if the money had been available.

With Palace also interested in Clarke as a potential replacement for Michael Olise, it will be interesting to watch how high Wolves rank the Sunderland player on their wanted list, in what is shaping up to be a tussle for the winger.
