DONE DEAL : Medical completed as QPR snap up Frenchman ahead of Euro admirers

QPR have signed goalkeeper Paul Nardi, with Sacha Tavolieri announcing that a medical has been passed.
QPR are looking for another goalkeeper or two this summer. Jordan Archer has been released, while veteran Asmir Begovic is also expected to move on. There has been much curiosity about the latter, who was the R’s number one last year. However, teenager Joe Walsh is now the only goalkeeper under contract with the first team beyond the end of this month.

However, that appears to be changing with the arrival of a new man at Loftus Road.

Belgian writer Sacha Tavolieri writes on X that QPR are likely to sign French shot-stopper Paul Nardi. He claims Nardi has passed a physical and a deal has been reached, amid reports that the 30-year-old will remain in the Jupiler Pro League with KV Kortrijk. Nardi is leaving KAA Gent at the end of his contract. He joined the club from FC Lorient in September 2022 and now appears to be embarking on a new chapter in West London.

A welcome addition.
As Archer moves on and Begovic considers his future move, the signing of Nardi is impressive.

He brings a wealth of high-level experience from Belgium and France. The former French youth international has played in his home country’s top two categories, keeping 15 clean sheets in 64 Jupiler Pro League matches. Having someone with that kind of experience join QPR will be a huge advantage. However, 30 is not an advanced age for a goalie. Nardi should have a lot of good years ahead of him, thus he might be the R’s go-to guy in between the sticks for years to come.

Also, this is a free transfer.

Low-cost, low-risk signature. Marti Cifuentes and his team have made sound business decisions in order to climb the Championship table once more. A Begovic hint?
Signing someone with Nardi’s pedigree between the sticks may all but seal Begovic’s fate.

The upcoming shot-stopper might be the Bosnian’s replacement. Even if the veteran goalkeeper continues, he will have to fight for his place in the team against stiff competition.

Begovic’s QPR contract will technically expire at the end of this month, so if a statement on his future is not made before then, he will become a free agent.

As Nardi appears to be coming in, all eyes will be on what this means for last season’s number one.
