After two new signings, Pompey have confirmed the contract extension of 2023/24 star
It’s the news Pompey fans have been waiting for: their beloved captain, Marlon Pack, has signed a new deal that will keep him a Blue for at least the next two years.
Pack, 33, returned to PO4 in 2022, 11 years after leaving the Blues, and led the club to League One triumph last season, making 39 appearances in all competitions. Pompey head coach John Mousinho spoke on the club’s website about how important it is to secure Pack’s future at Fratton Park. He emphasized how important his presence is in the locker room as the Blues prepare to return to the Championship. “It was so important for us to get this deal done, with everything that Marlon’s done at this football club since returning a couple of years ago” , commented Mousinho. “He lifted the League One trophy as captain and put in some great efforts during our victorious season. Marlon is an important part of what we want to achieve in the Championship going forward, so we’re thrilled that he’s remaining with the club.”
Pack, a lifelong Blues supporter, graduated from the Pompey academy in 2011 and went on to impress with Cheltenham, Bristol City, and Cardiff. Since his return two summers ago, the midfielder has been in outstanding form, and last season, in addition to promotion and the League One title, Pack was voted League One Team of the Season at the EFL awards, as well as Pompey’s Player of the Season. The 33-year-old has made 78 Pompey appearances and scored eight goals, and will now captain the team when they return to the EFL’s second division.
Pack’s new deal was confirmed following a busy few days at Pompey, which also saw the club announce the signings of former Oxford United winger Josh Murphy and 18-year-old sensation Reuben Swann. Murphy and Swann now join Jordan Williams as new summer 2024 newcomers, as the club prepares to go to Pula for a warm-weather pre-season training camp.
