JUST IN : Tampa Bay Lightning Hire J.D. Forrest as Assistant Coach in Syracuse

J.D. Forrest has joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as an assistant coach for the Syracuse Crunch, the organisation announced on Wednesday.

Additionally, the Lightning declared that they and Daniel Jacob, the Syracuse assistant coach, had mutually split ways.
Forrest, an Auburn, New York native, joins the Crunch after spending four seasons as the head coach and four seasons as an assistant coach with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since 2016.

Forrest had a successful nine-year professional career, playing in the ECHL, AHL, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, and Germany. He was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the sixth round of the 2000 NHL Draft.

Forrest began his coaching career as an intern assistant coach for the U.S. NTDP in the 2014–15 season, having given up skating in 2014.

After serving in that capacity for a season, Forrest spent a season as a coach in Austria prior to joining the Penguins.

Despite being a new coach for the first time in his nearly ten years in the AHL, Forrest will be able to use his background to his advantage when he joins the Crunch.
