Tonight’s Cardiff City news as striker signs for new club and star has stadium named after him in ‘huge honour’

The most recent Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium. Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, June 27.

Striker signs with new club
Penybont of the Cymru Premier League has recruited striker James Crole.

The 20-year-old, who made his only Bluebirds appearance in the Carabao Cup against Blackburn last year, was arguably unlucky not to have more opportunities while at Cardiff and had two unsuccessful loan periods.

The first, to Torquay United, saw him return nearly quickly after suffering an injury, whilst last season’s stay at Queen’s Park in Scotland proved unproductive, with the Wales youth international playing only one minute against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

It wasn’t the correct option for him at the time, and the player realized he needed to go on and play regular senior football somewhere, which he has done by joining with Penybont in the Welsh Premier League.

“James Crole returns home,” the club posted on X. “The local youngster joins us from Cardiff City to enhance our attack for the new season. “Hello, James!”

Weston-super-Mare and Barry Town United were also interested in signing him, while Swansea wanted to give him a trial.

The Bluebirds midfielder struggled to acclimate to Championship football in the early stages of the season, but he quickly settled in and was one of the first names on the team sheet by the finish.

It’s the latest chapter in the Greece international’s illustrious career, which has taken him from humble origins in Tychero, a village on the Evros river that forms the border with Turkey, to the Turkish top flight and now Wales.

The Municipal Stadium is now known as the Manolis Siopis Stadium, and Dimitrios Darousis, Deputy Mayor of Soufli Municipality, presented him with an honorary plaque. Subscribe to our Cardiff City newsletter here.
