LATEST UPDATE : Swansea City are now striving hard to sign a 25-year-old League One striker.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Swansea City are interested in Mark Harris, a current Oxford United and former Cardiff City striker.

Harris was a key player in Oxford’s promotion campaign last season, appearing in all 46 games and scoring 15 goals in League One as the O’s were promoted from England’s third tier for the first time in two and a half decades. The Welshman has been linked with a return to Wales, with Swansea City interested in him. Harris has already played for Cardiff, Newport County, and Wrexham, and might now complete the quartet.

Mark Harris joined Oxford on a long-term contract last summer after leaving the Bluebirds. After losing key player Josh Murphy to Portsmouth, head coach Des Buckingham will be hoping that the Swansea City links do not materialise and that he can retain another vital player for the 2024/25 Championship season.

The U’s have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing Will Vauks, Peter Kioso, and Jacob Knightbridge, as well as making Jamie Cummigs’ loan permanent following his heroics last season.

It is no secret that the Jacks are seeking for a new striker, with top scorer and loanee Jamal Lowe returning to his original club Bournemouth and then joining Sheffield Wednesday.

Pete O’Rouke says Jerry Yates will join newly promoted Derby County on loan. Swansea appear to have developed an interest in Harris, who has five caps for Wales.

Writer’s perspective
It’s not unexpected that Swansea City are trying to add attacking players during the summer season. The departures of both of their top scorers have left a huge void in their offense, which was not always burning on all cylinders last season. Manager Luke Williams appears to be trying to add some home-grown Welsh quality, but whether Harris will want to join or not is another question. From Oxford’s standpoint, losing another top player from the promotion campaign after losing Murphy would be a significant setback to their survival aspirations for the next season. Although the U’s have recruited effectively thus far, the club still faces a tough summer as they attempt to defy the odds and avoid relegation to the third division.
