Sammy Silvera will spend this season on loan with Portsmouth. Sammy Silvera hopes to assist Portsmouth achieve their goals of establishing themselves in the Championship while playing regularly and progressing as an individual player after completing his loan move from Middlesbrough to Portsmouth.
Silvera will spend the season on loan at Fratton Park, where Boro hope he can get more experience and develop as a Championship player by playing regularly for the newly promoted club. After signing Delano Burgzorg to bolster attacking options this summer, the 24-year-old would have struggled to find playing time at the Riverside.
He scored six goals and assisted three times in his first year with Boro after signing from Central Coast Mariners. Boro will closely watch Silvera’s progress at Fratton Park and will make a decision on his long-term future based on his performances this season, since he has 12 months left on his Boro deal when he returns. In his first Pompey interview, Silvera laid out his season goals with a team-first mentality: “The club has come from League One, and the desire is to go higher. It’s an enormous club with a large culture surrounding it. I want to help the squad become a consistent Championship team, and perhaps even aim further. That is the goal.
“The conversations with the manager
have been brief thus far, but they have focused on me as an individual progressing. “I’m hoping to add more goals and assists to my game and help players like [Kusini] Yengi score more goals, and I believe this is a place where I can do so.” That is really essential to me. The most crucial aspect is the group and how they operate together. Everyone is a member of the team, and we will work together to achieve greater success.

He was seen as a low-risk gamble for Boro. Michael Carrick has characterized himself as ‘excited’ about his potential, yet he was raw and inconsistent last season.
Reflecting on his first year in England, Silvera added, “It’s been freezing! It was more difficult because I was adjusting to life in a new neighborhood away from football. On the pitch, the demand is to play 46 games per season, not including cup games. So it is a little different from the A-League, where You play 26 games. “However, it was good. I was able to get in a great amount of game time, especially for someone coming from the A-League. So I believe I’ve adjusted well to that, and hopefully now I can continue to enhance my game by bringing more consistency into it.
