Shandon Baptiste will sign a four-year contract at Luton Town and an announcement is expected later on Friday, sources have told Football Insider. Luton are now putting the finishing touches to finalise the deal at their training ground after reaching a full agreement with the player. This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Luton have agreed a deal to sign Baptiste on a free transfer following his departure from Brentford. The club moved quickly to swoop after Baptiste, 26, saw his contract at Brentford expire on 1 July with no new offer tabled. Earlier this summer, Baptiste was at the top of their list of targets because of his experience winning promotion from the Championship and playing Premier League games. That expertise meant that when Rob Edwards’ side learned of his availability on a free transfer, they moved fast to finalize the transaction.
The midfielder joined Brentford from Oxford United in 2020 and was instrumental in their promotion and eventual stability in the top division.
He made 78 appearances for the West London club, with 55 of them coming in the Premier League.
However, after making only 12 appearances last season, two of which were from the start, the choice was taken to leave after four years. Following Luton’s relegation from the top flight, Edwards is trying to strengthen and excite his squad ahead of a campaign in which they hope to achieve promotion again.
